How did Boomerang’s get started?
While living in Sydney, Australia, Boomerang’s founder Jack Fennell and his wife Emilie, fell in love with the quintessential Australian cuisine, the “Aussie meat pie”. A handheld flaky pastry filled with delicious meats and vegetables, pies are eaten at the beach, the airport, sporting events, in casual restaurants, in food courts and even as catered work lunches. Witnessing the overwhelmingly positive responses of visiting friends and family to pies, Jack recognized the opportunity for pies back home.
What is the Boomerang’s menu?
Boomerang’s offers gourmet veggie and meat pies in more than 14 flavors, including chicken, steak, pizza and vegetarian options. These handheld, flaky pastries are chef created and inspired by the tastes of the world. Boomerang’s pies provide a gourmet alternative to fast food with the same convenience.
What are the calorie content of your pies?
We do know the calories in our veggie pies:
- Southwest Veggie - 330 Calories
- Curry Veggie - 340 Calories
- Spinach & Mushroom - 460 Calories
The protein in the meat and chicken will add to the amount of calories in our other pies, as
the dough and sauces are pretty much the same texture and content in all of our pies.
What is the origin of the meat pie?
The Australian meat pie is an Aussie icon. The tradition of pie making and eating came to Australian shores with the early European settlers beginning in 1788. Pastry cooks in Europe had been encasing fruit and meats in pies since the 13th century, but Australia made the delicacy its own. Through the years Australians handed down the tradition of pie making and eating and during World War II pies were recognized as the “national dish.” Throughout the Aussie meat pie’s history the cuisine has grown in popularity and can now be purchased just about anywhere in Australia.
Boomerang’s gourmet veggie and meat pies are Australian inspired and Austin made.
When did Boomerang’s open?
Boomerang’s opened its doors on Australia Day 2006 (January 26).
Do Boomerang’s pies have any preservatives?
Boomerang’s is serious when it comes to the freshness and quality of our products. Our products do not contain trans-fat, artificial flavors, colors, MSG or preservatives. In addition, we use untreated, unbleached flour. Basically, we make the healthiest pies possible and are a great alternative to fast food.
How much does it cost to eat at Boomerang’s?
Prices of pies range from $5.00 to $5.50. Customers can enjoy a pie, a side dish and a drink for an average price of under $8.00.
What is the fast casual dining sector?
People are looking for something quicker than a full-service restaurant, but desire a healthier more gourmet alternative to fast-food. The fast-casual market pulls together the fine qualities of multiple restaurant sectors. It takes the fast from fast-food, its quality and ambience from the casual dining experience, adds a focus on health and freshness and provides all of this at an affordable price.
I bought some frozen pies for home (available in Boomerang’s or through shipping). How do I reheat the pies?
Oven (recommended):
Thaw overnight in your refrigerator.
Pre-heat your oven to 350°. Remove pie(s) from plastic wrappings. Place pie(s) on sheet pan and bake for 20 minutes or until center is hot. If frozen double time.
Microwave then Oven:
Take pie(s) out of plastic wrappings. Defrost in microwave for 2-3 minutes while pre-heating oven to 350°. Remove from microwave and place pie(s) on sheet pan and back for 10-15 minutes to crisp up pie(s).
Microwave:
Take pie(s) out of plastic wrapping. Place in microwave for 3-5 minutes on high power. Using this method may cause the crust to not be as strong, but the pie will still taste great!
Consume or freeze pies within two days of purchasing.
